When a recipe calls for shortening, exactly what is it? I am making the Baby Block Cake Pops.

Hi,

Shortening is used to help make the candy coating easier to coat. Shortening refers to vegetable shortening. It is a solid fat and has no water or milk solids in it, so it works well for dipping chocolate and candy. Here is a link that explains what it is.

Thanks for your question.
