I have not tested this recipe but it look like the cake batter goes in the pan on top of the caramel topping then the flan layer is the last layer to go in the pan. But, during baking it sounds like the layers separate. The blogger made a comment in the method about it...
(Flan mixture will mix with batter, but they will separate during baking, forming 1 layer of cake and 1 layer of flan.)
