You can make fresh breadcrumbs quickly and easily by hand, by using a grater or by using a food processor. You’ll get the best results if the bread is not super fresh or soft. You can put bread slices in a 300°F oven until slightly crusty. Rip the slices and tear into small pieces; rub slices or chunks of bread on a metal box grater or process in a food processor. You’ll get about 1 cup of soft crumbs from 1 1/2 slices bread. You’ll get about 1 cup dry crumbs from 4 or 5 slices oven-dried bread. Once you make bread crumbs, you can freeze them for up to two months. Use bread crumbs in Betty's Best Meat Loaf recipe or on top of your favorite casserole. Vary the bread and come up some great flavor combos!
