Betty, I can't flute a pie! Can you explain to me how to flute a pie?

There are more ways to toot your flute than a perfect fluted pie! While I happen to come from a pie-baking family, I'd love to show you a few pie tricks that will get oohs and aahs and will erase the word "embarass" from your vocabulary! Trick 1: use small cutouts to jazz up pie. Invest in a miniature cookie cutter like a leaf pattern, heart or star shape (you can find in craft stores or online) These little cutouts can replace the edge of your pie. Simply place them all around the edge of your unbaked pumpin pie pastry using a little water or egg white to ensure they stick. Trick 2: Bake extra cutouts to place on a dollop of whipped cream. Trick 3: Instead of a top crust on your cherry pie, overlap lots of these little cutouts to form a beautiful pie top that extends over where others might make an ordinary flute. It's not too early to make pie shells for pumpkin pie, wrap tightly and store in the freezer until ready to bake. Good luck in wowing your crowd!
